DIY – Natural Deodorant

DIY - #BelajarZeroWaste

I am super happpy that I finally ditch the average store-bought antiperspirant (deodorant) for this home made deodorant.

First thing I’d like to share is about why I switch to natural deodorant and decided to make it makeself. It’s all becauase the store-bought deodorant commonly use alcohol as the antibacterical agent. For the antiperspirant, it contains aluminum compounds as the active ingredient. This aluminum prevent sweat, which is natural body’s way to flush out toxins. So, could you imagine what happen with the toxins if they can’t be flushed out and trapped inside our body? Oh, gosh! Also, antiperspirant sometimes can cause skin irritation.

There are many natural ingredients can be used to make your own natural deodorant, but here are the ingredients I use which are simple and super easy to make. This ingredients measurecan be adjusted to the container you owned, for me it fits to my 50 gr sized container.

  • 15 gr baking soda
  • 15 gr cornstarch
  • VCO (adjusted to te texture you want)
  • 5-10 drops of grapefruit essential oil (optional)

  • Mix baking soda and corstarch together, stir evenly
  • Add in the VCO and EO, mix well
  • Pour the mixture into an airtight container

What happen after using homemade deodorant?

When switching from chemical-laden deodorant or antiperspirant, you might think that using homemade deodorant doesn’t work well. But it’s normal because it’s our body adjustment to acclimates to the natural solution. For me,after about three weeks of use, I feel no more irritation on my underarm and the odor reduces a lot, changing to bettter smell: grapefruit and coconut fragrance.

ps: Grapefruit EO is know for its antibacterical, detoxifier and disinfectant effects.

The texture may turn to be more fluid in high temperature, I sometimes put it in a fridge to keep the texture thick.
